The engine is back and ready to be painted. Here is a picture of it all wrapped up, fresh from the machine shop.
Can't wait to see it painted up and back in the car! (right)
June 18, 2003
The painting is in progress on the engine. It will be no time before the engine and transmission will be back in
the car.
June 30, 2003
The engine is painted and just about ready for the car! For a while I thought this day wasn't going to come.
The decals for the valve cover lettering will be coming soon, can't wait to see what it looks like when it's all done!
July 7, 2003
The engine and transmission are back in... everything runs like a charm. Still haven't hooked up the teletouch
though... the mounting bracket is lost! (right)
July 30, 2003
Stripping has begun on the body. Soon we'll be removing the windows and replacing seals!
August 7, 2003
Here are a few pictures showing the progress on the body work. (below & right)
August 15, 2003
Here is a photo of the engine, all put back together and back in the car and running like a dream! Never thought
it would look or sound like it does ever again. Can't wait to try her out on the road! All that's left to do is
put on the valve cover decals.
August 19, 2003
The front and rear windows are taken out. Below and to the right are photos of rust that needs to be dealt
with along the pillars.
August 22 & 30, 2003
The four newest images show the progress of the smoothing and reshaping... it shouldn't be long before the priming starts!
September 6-13, 2003
Body work is continuing. The panels have been sanded down to get rid of all the surface rust. Things are
starting to shape up! I got word today that there is a coat of primer over the entire surface of the car, so we might
just see some color before winter gets here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather holds out! I'll have
more pictures tomorrow or the next day.
September 16, 2003
Here are some inages showing the car in primer. This is just the first coat... it is an epoxy primer to help prevent rust.
Rick has also started lining the hood with the hood insulation that I finally found! Looks pretty good, doesn't
it?
September 18, 2003
The hood lining is in. It looks great! Almost like new. I can't wait for the trunk lid to be done too.
September 25, 2003
Here are the three latest pictures. Progress is slow at the minute while we are waiting for some materials.
The hood and trunk lid are finally done and ready for priming. Everything is recontoured to its original shape and the
holes are filled in where the dealership script was located on the trunk lid. I'm going to try to get the script rechromed,
but it's in pretty bad shape. There are a few places that needed a bit more fill, so they are being completed as well.
September 30, 2003
The hood and trunk lid are primed and ready for wet sanding before painting.
October 3, 2003
There is a fine overspray of black primer over the entire car to aid in the final sanding. The black will
remain in any dents or scratches when the car is wet sanded so that any final patching can be done.
October 9, 2003
The doors are now off the car to get the door jambs ready for priming and painting. In the one picture, you can
see that someone did a really bad matching job when they repainted the doors. The front end looks great! We popped
one of the headlight surrounds on to check the fit... just like new!
October 11, 2003
My car celebrated its 46th birthday by getting the edges of its doors sanded and primed... a sure sign that it's almost
time to paint!
October 13, 2003
The first hints of color are starting to appear on the car. The door edges and door jambs are painted. The
roof should be done by the end of the week!
October 25, 2003
The turquoise paint is finally on the car. The white will be slightly delayed due to some mix-ups with the paint
mixing! For some reason, the creamy Snow White came out the shade of a manilla envelope!
October 28, 2003
Here are some pictures of the car as of the 28th! The white was put on yesterday, and it wasn't quite what we expected.
Once it dried, we compared it to the existing Snow White paint on the car... the white on the dash... and it matches quite
closely! So, I'm guessing that this is what Snow White looked like. Doesn't look much like snow to me! (Of
course Talisman Red doesn't look very red, either.) I've included a picture of the dash... it is slightly blurry, but
serves as a half decent point of color comparison. Looks pretty close to the original color.
October 30, 2003
Here are the latest 3 images of the car. The exterior is all painted, just needs to be buffed out. Rick is
starting to strip the metal interior parts to repaint them. The dash isn't going to be repainted unless we absolutely
have to. The paint is in nice shape. The headlights are back in and the seal is back on the trunk. We're
waiting for the deal seals to come in, they are on backorder. Once those are in, the doors will go back on... then trim
and windows!
November 1, 2003
The trunk lid is back on and Rick has started painting all of the interior metal pieces. The cardboard piece beneath
the rear window painted up nicely despite some nasty water damage.
November 4, 2003
Had the car out of the garage today to dust it off. Here are a few pictures of the car outside.
November 14, 2003
The decals are finally on the valve covers. Looks really cool!
December 10, 2003
The carpet is here! To the right is a photo of it rolled and waiting to be installed.
