John Stewart Hunter was born September 15, 1841 to Joseph Hunter and Catherine Boyer in Etna, PA.
The 1860 census shows John living at home with his parents and siblings and working as a blacksmith. John participated
in the Civil War (63rd PA Vol). In 1866, he married Agnes Nicholson (1846-1897). To this marriage were born four
children: Ada Viola, Harland Hebron, Harvey Raymond, and Mignonette Pearl. John Hunter passed away January 28, 1916.
